What is your morning routine?

I roll out of bed and make a bleary eyed b-line to the kettle. Meanwhile, I’m checking Twitter and email on my phone with one eye.

At some point, I do a lot of stretching and joint cracking.

How long have you stuck with this routine so far?

This is the only routine I’ve been able to stick through over the years. It could probably be a lot better and healthier. I’ve tried a lot of things but nothing seemed to stick; working out, jogging, cooking, meditating, etc.

MMR seems like a good place to get some positive inspirations.

What time do you go to sleep?

It depends on the demands of the day, but sometime between 11:00pm and 3:00am.

Do you use an alarm to wake you up in the morning, and if so do you ever hit the snooze button?

I have several alarms that go off at 7:15, 7:30, 7:45, 8:00, 8:15, and 8:30am. I’m usually out of bed around 9 but have read most of the morning’s emails by 8:30am.

How soon after waking up do you have breakfast, and what do you typically have?

This also depends, sometimes I forget until lunch time or even dinner.

Sometimes I eat eggs and toast, but mostly it’s whatever is on hand – cereal, toast, bagels.

Do you have a morning meditation routine?

I think making tea or coffee is kinda like a meditation, but I don’t do it everyday.

Do you see to email first thing in the morning or leave it until later in the day?

First thing when I wake up. It’s a terrible habit. I should stop.

How soon do you check your phone in the morning, either for calls/messages or social media and news?

First thing. It’s awful!

What are your most important tasks in the morning?

The first thing is to refocus on the things I want to accomplish for the day – usually this is one or two crucial tasks. Then everything is just reactive and mercurial to the demands of the day.

What and when is your first drink in the morning?

My first drink in the morning is water.

On days you’re not settled in your home, are you able to adapt your routine to fit in with a different environment?

Yeah, since I don’t have a huge routine, it’s not a big issue to follow it even in different environments.

What do you do if you fail to follow your routine and how does this influence the rest of your day?

I just go about my day, because that’s all you can do :)
