What is your morning routine?
My day begins like a large percentage of other peoples; cursing my alarm clock and abusing the snooze button. Damn that snooze button. It’s got the face of James Franco and the voice of Gilbert Gottfried. I give in to its noise and roll over to wake up my main squeeze (it’s important that no one in the house enjoy sleep if I’m awake).
I walk my dog, Lisa, then feed her and my three-legged cat, Sean. That’s when my morning begins to improve. Half-ass showering happens next, then I head to my office, where breakfast and coffee await me. The key to my morning happiness is waiting until I get to work to have breakfast and coffee.
How long have you stuck with this routine so far?
Three years.
How has your morning routine changed over recent years?
I haven’t always had a bedmate or cat, they came along in the last year.
What time do you go to sleep?
I tend to fall asleep between 9:30 and 10:30pm.
How soon after waking up do you have breakfast, and what do you typically have?
I have breakfast an hour after waking, and it’s always an English muffin with crunchy peanut butter and a banana, with coffee with unsweetened almond milk to drink. SO DAMN GOOD!
Do you have a morning workout routine?
I ride my bike eight miles to work when the weather is agreeable. Otherwise no.
How about morning meditation?
No, but should I?
Do you see to email first thing in the morning, or leave it until later in the day?
I need to see email as soon as breakfast is over.
What are your most important tasks in the morning?
Getting my animals fed and happy.
On days you’re not settled in your own home, are you able to adapt any of your routine to fit in with a different environment?
Nope, not at all. It could be one of the reasons I hate traveling.
What do you do if you fail to follow your routine, and how does this influence the rest of your day?
It’s pretty rough if I don’t get the coffee and food. I think I might make some enemies.
