What is your morning routine?
When I have time, my morning routine is breakfast, quick wash, meditation, drawing an oracle card for the day, writing morning pages, deciding on my three priorities for the day, social media and email, yoga practice, and a shower.
And by the time I do all this, it’s time for lunch :)
When I’m teaching a class in the morning, I do an abridged version: breakfast (okay this one is NEVER abridged), shower, grounding exercise, oracle cards, priorities, and then either I have some time left to check my emails or I just dash out of the house in a frenzy!
How long have you stuck with this routine so far?
This routine has been a staple in my life for about six months, with a few additions here and there.
How has your morning routine changed over recent years?
I used to have a quick routine before going to work, but last year I quit my day job to become a full time yoga teacher and coach, meaning I gained control over my schedule and could extend it as much as I needed to.
What time do you go to sleep?
Between midnight and 1:00am.
Do you use an alarm to wake you up in the morning, and if so do you ever hit the snooze button?
I teach in the mornings twice a week, so on these days I use an alarm.
How soon after waking up do you have breakfast?
Five minutes later, I’m starving when I wake up!
Do you have a morning workout routine?
No, I can’t work out first thing in the morning for the life of me. Namely because I’m starving and I need time to wake up, physically and mentally! I tried but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
How about morning meditation?
Always, one way or another, even if it’s just two minutes of grounding.
Do you see to email first thing in the morning, or leave it until later in the day?
NEVER first thing in the morning. I don’t check my email before 11:00am.
How soon do you check your phone in the morning, either for calls/messages or social media and news?
I have taken social media and email off my phone, and I only turn my phone on after my morning meditation. I never leave it by my bed, I have a landline my family will use should anything happen, and my cell is for work. And I don’t work when I sleep, so…
What are your most important tasks in the morning?
I’m no good at working in the mornings, so before I start anything my most important task is precisely my morning routine, to set me up for the rest of the day.
What and when is your first drink in the morning?
Black tea with a nudge of milk at breakfast.
What do you do if you fail to follow your routine, and how does this influence the rest of your day?
I try to have a mini routine like the one I described above. When I don’t have a full routine I try my best to get the rest in by the end of the day.
Otherwise I just go with the flow and enjoy where I am :)
