What is your morning routine?
Normally I get up around 6:30am to shower and get organised for the day. I always prefer ‘real’ coffee made in an (Italian) stove top coffee-pot, whilst making my son’s lunch for school.
I usually drive to work at around 7:45am to hopefully arrive at my desk 45 minutes later. Within the hour, I will purchase a triple-shot latte from the espresso bar to satisfy my caffeine requirements. To be honest, breakfast doesn’t really factor high on my priority list, probably time to change that! Sometimes I will have a cinnamon brioche, blueberry muffin, or cereal, just for the record.
How long have you stuck with this routine so far?
My morning routine is extremely flexible. Sometimes, I have appointments and meetings at 7:00am weekly, so therefore the triple shot latte and breakfast normally extend out until past 9:00am.
The above routine has been on-going for approximately six years or so.
How has your morning routine changed over recent years?
The only real change to my routine is the drive to work. I now live further away, so the travel time to work is now longer, unfortunately!
Coffee has always been (and always will be) my ritual in the mornings.
What time do you go to sleep?
I’m generally a really busy, creative person with blogging, dinner, domestics, and work on my projects and studies taking up much of my evening each day after my day job, so sleep time is usually around 11:00pm to midnight daily.
Do you use an alarm to wake you up in the morning, and if so do you ever hit the snooze button?
Mostly, I use my iPhone as an alarm. Normally I wake up a minute before it goes off for some weird reason, so I’ll naturally deactivate the alarm.
Do you have a morning workout routine?
I wish I did have a morning workout regime, however I do not, due to being time poor! Excuses, I know. Looking at Bikram yoga and ballet in the next month, I promise!
How about morning meditation?
Having attended many meditation workshops, this form of ‘calm’ has not entered into my morning routine as yet.
I tend to do self affirmations and speak to the universe in the shower daily, opposed to traditional meditation. I absolutely love the process though!
Do you see to email first thing in the morning or leave it until later in the day?
I’m one of those people who check my smartphone first thing in the morning until the time I go to sleep. Responding to emails is important to me, as communication is my thing! I also utilise many social media platforms including Yelp, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook daily (I’m online 12-18 hours per day).
What are your most important tasks in the morning?
I regard coffee as one of my top priorities, with this also adding a little ‘luxury’ to my crazy life. Next; checking Gmail and social media platforms, as they are my lifeline to work opportunities.
On days you’re not settled in your own home, you able to adapt any of your routine to fit in with a different environment?
To be honest, I love travelling and staying in hotels or at friends’ houses, so I normally (politely) adapt to their lifestyle. That said, my triple-shot is still a pre-requisite daily.
You’ll normally find me visiting cafés regularly when I’m away, around 2-3 times per day. My smartphone travels everywhere: roam, wireless, or broadband connections are never far away.
What do you do if you fail to follow your routine, and how does this influence the rest of your day?
Well, if I don’t have coffee, or am unable to get reception on my phone, my life would be turned upside-down. My mood would be effected greatly (to my detriment) and I would be preoccupied the entire day. Abstinence of coffee makes me intolerable, and unfortunately impatient!
