What is your morning routine?
My alarm goes off at 7:00am. The first thing I do is check in with my body and recognize any areas that are off. Next, I drink a large glass of cold, cucumber infused water, put on some sneakers and am out the door within ten minutes for a quick jog as I watch the sunrise.
Back at home, I go into basic cardio, sun salutations, yoga poses and stretches. I finish the movement off with a five minute meditation.
Next I make myself something warm and light to eat. I’ll usually make myself some dandelion tea to go along with breakfast. I like to eat outside and savor the cool morning air, sounds of birds arising and beautiful colors painted across the sky. When I’m finished, I do some tidying up. I’ll clean the dishes, do laundry, water the plants and tidy up every room. Once everything is in it’s place, I’ll light some yummy smelling candles.
The next chunk of my morning is dedicated to making myself feel beautiful. I take a cool shower, wash my face, moisturize with sesame oil, get dressed, apply some makeup, style my hair, brush my teeth, and roll a bit of coconut perfume on my wrists and neck.
When I’m finished, I’ll put on some light acoustic music and start my studies.
How long have you stuck with this routine so far?
I’ve been following this routine for about a month.
My schedule changes pretty frequently, as does my routine. As long as I have my priorities completed early in the day, I will feel at peace.
What time do you go to sleep?
I try to be in bed by 8:30-9:00pm so that I get plenty of sleep. I’ll usually do some reading or writing before falling asleep.
My night routine is a domino effect into my morning routine. If I don’t go to sleep early enough, I’ll be too tired to do much in the morning. Then my routine moves later into the day, forcing me to stay up late to complete unfinished tasks. It’s a vicious cycle!
How soon after waking up do you have breakfast?
I usually eat something thirty minutes to an hour after I wake up, depending on how hungry I am. Sometimes I wait until afternoon to eat a full meal.
Do you have a morning workout routine?
My exercise routine consists of my morning jog, basic cardio (crunches, push ups, stair runs, etc.), sun salutations and lots of stretches to loosen up.
What are your most important tasks in the morning?
The tasks I consider most important are self care, cleaning, and planning. As long as I get these done in some way, shape or form, I’ll feel accomplished.
What and when is your first drink in the morning?
I drink water right after waking up. Later in the morning I’ll have dandy tea, a protein shake, or green juice.
On days you’re not settled in your home, are you able to adapt your routine to fit in with a different environment?
When I’m on vacation, I stay up late and sleep in late, filling the days with relaxation. I’ll read and write when I want some quiet. I never skip my self care routine though, it’s an important step to feeling confident during the day.
What do you do if you fail to follow your routine, and how does this influence the rest of your day?
If I don’t follow a variation my morning routine, I feel lost and behind throughout the day. I try as much as I can to follow it and get as much done as I can!
