What is your morning routine?

My mornings start between 6 and 6:30am like clockwork. That’s when our son Owen wakes up, ready to go! He’s a toddler, so as soon as his internal clock goes off he wants to play trucks and eat breakfast and play more trucks!

During the week, he and I play for 30 minutes or so while my husband gets ready. Then the two of them head off together – Zach drops Owen off at daycare and then continues on to work.

Once the men have left the building, I move into hyper-drive until it’s time to catch the bus. I do a load of laundry every day (it’s the only way to keep on top of it!), work out what’s going to be for dinner and if I need to prep any of it, take a shower, and get the dishwasher loaded.

I then grab the bus at 9:30am and head to work.

How long have you stuck with this routine so far?

I’ve been doing this most days since January (three months).

How has your morning routine changed over recent years?

I used to sleep until the last possible second, and my husband and I would carpool to work. I was a crabby mess until I’d had at least two Coke Zeros. Now I’m up earlier than ever, don’t drink soda any more and take the bus to work.

Oh, and wrangle a toddler!

What time do you go to sleep?

I try to be in bed between 10 and 11:00pm. Closer to 10:00pm if I can make it work!

Do you have a morning workout routine?

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! If you count chasing after Owen while Zach showers and wrangling him into his clothes for the day, then I definitely do. Otherwise, my exercise comes from walking to and from the bus stop to work/home/school.

How soon do you check your phone in the morning, either for calls/messages or social media and news?

I try to wait to check my phone until after the boys have left for school/work. It keeps me focused on my son, grounded in the moments I have with him.

Once they’re gone however, I turn on the computer and get myself caught up on news/media for the morning, as well as check to see if I’m sharing a new hat that day.

What and when is your first drink in the morning?

Coffee, black and large.

We have a Keurig machine, so I make a double dose once Owen and Zach have left for the day and take my time drinking it while the washing machine does its thing and I check news/media/blogs for the morning.
